Puristry: New & Exclusive Organic Skin Care At Anthropologie

Organic Skin Care Puristry

I discovered Anthropologie 15 years ago and fell in love with the shop the moment I walked in the door.  It’s one of those stores I can spend hours in browsing their chic Bohemian clothes.  Plus, they have an amazing beauty product line up!  And now beauty from Anthropologie gets even better!  They have an exclusive, natural skin care line called Puristry.  The new line was created by Susie Wang, the founder of 100% Pure.  Not only is Puristry made with natural ingredients, each product has earned the USDA Organic seal.

To be honest, up until recently, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to ingredients.  I looked for good ingredients in products but didn’t pay attention to everything else.  That was until about two months ago, when I was rushed to the emergency room as the result of an allergic reaction.  I have no idea what caused it and I’ve never had anything like that happen before.  Specialists believe it was some combination of things that brought on the reaction.  Since the incident, I’ve been careful with foods, household products, and cosmetics.  I took a closer look at some of the cosmetic and skin care products I was using and had a serious wake up call.  Today, everything I use is not completely natural but far more is than ever before.  I’m always looking for effective, natural skin care products and I pay attention to ingredients that may be toxic.

All Puristry products are entirely free of chemicals and toxic ingredients.  Sometimes that means less effective but in the case of Puristry, it’s exactly the opposite.  Susie Wang deeply understands the relationship between specific plants and skin care and created each product with a hero plant-derived ingredient.  The best suited ingredient for the purpose of each product is incorporated in a high concentration with complimentary ingredients to deliver optimal results.  I found the concept, packaging, and ingredients intriguing and unlike anything I have seen before.  (And I’ve explored a lot of products!)

The Puristry skin care line consists of a cleanser, toner,  facial oil, moisturizer, serum, facial oil, eye cream, and moisturizer.  It’s all the essentials for a comprehensive routine.  Let’s take a closer look at the two products I’ve tried!

Puristry Seaberry Moisturizer

Hero ingredient: Seaberry

Puristry Seaberry Moisturizer

Key ingredients: Organic Aloe (Aloe Barbadensis) Water, Organic Shea Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Glycerin, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Organic Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Organic Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Organic Ceratonia Siliqua (Locust) Gum, Organic Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Organic Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Oil, Organic Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Extract, Organic Bergaptene Free Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Organic Cedrus Atlantica (Cedarwood) Bark Oil, Organic Vetivera Zizanoides (Vetiver) Root Oil, Organic Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Organic Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Cetearyl Alcohol.

The star ingredient of the Puristry Seaberry Moisturizer is seaberry!  OK, maybe that was obvious but the benefits of seaberry in skin care may not be.  Seaberries, also known as sea buckthorn, is a powerhouse when it comes to nourishing the skin.  These berries are a great source of Omegas 3, 6, and 9.  Plus, they are considered to be the world’s richest source of the essential fatty acid, Omega-7.  This fatty acid is vital to collagen production and healthy skin.  The moisturizer has powerful anti-aging benefits and will help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  The Omega-7 fatty acid will help promote collagen production which boosts firmness and elasticity.  When looking for a natural solution, this would be the best moisturizer for dry skin.  Seaberries in skin care are also the best moisturizer for oily acne prone skin.

This Puristry Seaberry Moisturizer is recommended to be used in the morning and at night.  It’s not a greasy or rich heavy feeling product on your skin.  It has a light feeling on the skin and is quickly absorbed.  It doesn’t contain silicone or other ingredients that leave skin feeling like it’s coated or slippery.  Once it’s absorbed, the skin feels natural.  The essential oils in this product yield an incredibly gorgeous woody herbal scent.

Organic Facial oil Puristry

I’m addicted to using face oil.  I love trying different blends of essential oils in skin care so this is a product I was excited to get my hands on.  Once I learned the benefits of applying certain oils to my skin, I began collecting favorites on my night stand to use just before I go to sleep.  I have found essential oils to be the best face moisturizer.  I love the way my skin looks and feels in the morning when I use face oil.

The Puristry Restorative Facial Oil hero ingredient is black currant oil.  This oil contains a large concentration of gamma-Linolenic acid and a blend of additional nutrient rich oils to improve skin tone and elasticity.  The acai oil is high in antioxidants and black cumin is rich in omega fatty acids which offers deeply nourishing skin benefits.  This oil has an herbal scent, which is very addicting!  It absorbs quickly and I find my skin has the radiant glow I come to know from formulas that contain rosehip seed oil.

  1. Hi Janine,
I Just found out about your blog and I like it.. I wonder if you have any suggestions for my case… I have Melasma for last 10 years — I used Hydroquinone 3%, it didn’t work — then I tried Tri-luma I could see the difference after the first week of usage and after couple of months all the discolorations was gone once I stopped using it the discoloration was back .. I used off and on for couple year until it didn’t work for me anymore. Do you know of any good product for pigmentation?

    Regards,
    Nadia

    1. Hi Nadia. I’ve noticed a big difference between Hydroquinone 3% and 4%. The Triluma is 4% so I’m not surprised you saw a difference. I experience the same thing as you do. When you stop the hydroquinone, the discoloration comes back. It never stopped working for me though. I use Obagi Blender and/or Clear. I use them for about 6 months and then break for 3-4 months. During the breaks, I use Lytera 2 but it is not effective like the hydroquinone products. The Blender penetrates deeper and is mixed with tretinoin. You may start seeing that combo be really effective if you haven’t tried it because Triluma contains .05% tretinoin whereas Blender and tretinoin separately you can get in a stronger dose at .1%. Just know it takes time to get used to tretinoin and skin can get red and flakey but it goes away.

Do you use a good sunblock on your face? That will help! Also, during the hydroquinone off periods, you could try fractional laser or chemical peels. I have done TCA 30% peels – which are GREAT. I don’t see as much change from the fractional laser but I feel my skin is more glowy from it and I really like the laser but for different reasons. The peels look terrible for about a week or so, but then the skin is really pretty afterwards. It’s not expensive to do and it can make a big difference. Also, maybe check with a dermatologist. If they can identify the root cause of the melasma, they can create a regimen for you to control it.

I don’t think anything is out there (yet) that permanently stops it from coming back but definitely there are some other treatments and some combo of things that will work best for you. I’ve never seen anything work as good as hydroquinone though – nothing else can do what it can. AHA products are often recommended but underwhelming. I hope this helps! Much love to you! XOXOXXO

  3. Hi! I found your blog through Instagram. I never heard of the “Puristry” line until now. The black currant oil looks interesting.

    1. They are all really interesting. I have only tried two but I’m going to head over to Anthropologie to see the other things in the line since it’s carried at my local store. It’s really beautifully packaged too! Glad you found me through Instagram! Welcome to my little corner of the Internet! =) XOXOX

  4. The packaging is beautiful. I’d love to try the moisturizer and facial oil. My skin is naturally dry so I love trying new products for moisture.

  5. I love the packaging and the natural ingredients. I’ve also been trying different essential oils and agree that it’s the best way to add moisture overnight. Puristry sounds amazing!!

Please leave a comment. I'd really love to chat with you!
